It is craftsmanship and attention to detail which makes the difference. Since the mid 19th century, we have carefully maintained our tradition of master craftsmanship and proudly handed this down to each new generation of bed manufacturers. All Hästens beds are built with excellent craftsmanship and a feel for nature’s finest materials – qualities that only the most skilful bed builder can bring. In our opinion, no machine can replace a highly skilled human bed manufacturer. At Hästens, people contribute ideas, skills and hard work, while Mother Nature provides the materials. It is high quality and craftsmanship with feeling that matters. In our dream-factory, our co-workers always play the leading role. The superb craftsmanship and painstaking attention to every detail is evident wherever you look on your Hästens bed: the well constructed bed frame, the sturdy, precise stitching of the fabric, the flexible stretch fabric on the top with the Hästens emblem woven in – details that work together to create a bed for life. We are constantly working to improve and refine Hästens beds.

Your bed should last a very long time. The best thing for you is a more comfortable and long-lasting bed! People that have never seen our factory may doubt that the beds are actually made by hand. When two of our co-workers were doing a demonstration of their work at a store in Stockholm, people came up to them and said: “Come on, you can’t really work like that, can you...?” But we do. Our beds are made by hand, step by step, using natural materials. That is where the quality comes from. No machine can surpass the skills of a master craftsman when it comes to building a bed. We process the horsehair, we stitch, we cut and we tack. Finally, we make the last stitches and tuft the bed by hand to ensure the same quality. The fabric is measured, outlined and cut with great care. The fabric sections are then sewn with great precision, down to the millimetre. The seams of a Hästens bed stand up to close scrutiny.



Spring System

After years of research, development and testing, Hästens has patented a spring system which is unique in the world of beds. This new system means that each spring can move more independently of the others, creating the most pliable and flexible bed. Just like any other component in a Hästens bed, springs are a science in themselves, and one of the most important parts of your bed. After all, it is primarily the springiness, durability and “softness” of the springs that determines how well you sleep at night, and in turn, how well you feel during the day. With a Hästens bed you can enjoy the latest technology in bed springs. Hästens’ new patented spring system, combined with our special tempered Swedish springs and comfortable natural materials, makes our beds wonderfully soft on the surface with comfortable support at every level. The springs used in Hästens beds are made exclusively in Sweden and are of the very highest quality. Hästens is the largest Swedish bed manufacturer that uses only springs made in Sweden. When we refine our products, we look at what you value in a bed, in order to make sure we constantly offer the best beds money can buy.

Hästens pocket springs are pliable, comfortable and supportive. We use a technique whereby the steel is coiled before it is tempered so that it retains its height and shape. This technique is more advanced, and more time-consuming than traditional methods, but here at Hästens we have always stuck to the principle: If we can find a way to make our beds more comfortable, we’ll do it. Hästens gives you a lot more for your money. Each spring is mounted one by one in individual pockets. This lets each spring move individually according to each little movement of your body, which means that when your partner turns over in bed you will barely notice it. Careful testing has shown the importance of surface softness, spring depth and bottom springs. Hästens' new patented spring system follows each contour of your body, giving you greater comfort and making the bed feel “bottomless”. This new bed technology combined with our all-natural material provides outstanding comfort. When we sleep, the body is restored and new energy is gathered. Certificates and Awards

Our knowledge and experience have led to us receiving a number of awards and accolades, such as the Swan eco-label, Oeko-tex 100 and Möbelfakta. And the icing on the cake is that we have been appointed Purveyors to the Royal Court. We hope that will be enough to give you confidence in us!


Purveyor to H.M. the King of Sweden
The criteria for being appointed Royal Purveyor are rigid. The company must have been in operation for at least 5 years and their financial position must be impeccable. After an application is submitted to the court, it is up to the King or Queen to bestow purveyor status. Then of course, the company must deliver products to the Royal Court before they may use the title Purveyor to H.M. the King of Sweden. The Royal Warrant may only be displayed by companies duly appointed Purveyor to H.M. the King of Sweden. The warrant must be renewed if there is a new king, or the company has a new managing director, or every 10 years. Hästens beds was appointed Purveyor to H.M. the King of Sweden for the first time in 1952 by King Gustaf VI Adolf.

Swan Certified
The Swan is the symbol of the Nordic environmental labelling system and has been around since 1989. In Sweden SIS Miljömärkning AB is responsible for awarding the Nordic environmental symbol – the Swan. Nordic environmental labelling was set up to benefit the environment by providing guidelines for consumers that wish to buy products that have the least impact on the environment. The primary goal of the Swan Certificate is to promote the development of environmentally friendly products and services. Swan certified products must fulfil stringent criteria that guarantee that the products cause less negative impact on the environment than other similar products. The product’s entire lifespan is taken into account, from raw material to rubbish. In order for Hästens beds to be Swan certified, we had to provide results of several independent tests as well as documentation proving that the special requirements of SIS Miljömärkning AB had been fulfilled. SIS Miljömärkning AB has determined that Hästens beds have met the requirements and may be labelled with the Swan Certificate.

Oeko-Tex 100
The idea behind Oeko-Tex 100 is to provide a label that guarantees consumers that a product is free from harmful substances. After extensive laboratory testing, during which our bed materials were broken down to the molecular level, Hästens beds were proven to be free from chemical substances that may have negative influences on human health. The product must be made in such a way that no harmful substances can develop during product usage. All component parts must fulfil the strict requirements. Only producers that comply with these stringent requirements and allow recurring testing of their products may be certified by Oeko-Tex 100. All Hästens beds and mattresses have been approved, and this includes the filling material, not just the outer surfaces. What’s more, Hästens were the first in Sweden to produce Oeko-tex certified beds.

Möbelfakta®
Möbelfakta® is a reference and quality system for the furniture industry. The system was developed by Sveriges Möbelindustriförbund (The Swedish Furniture Industry Association) and a group of trade representatives. A bed marked with the Möbel­fakta® tag has been subjected to extensive testing: > SS-EN 1957 (“tests for assessing functional qualities”) > SS-EN 1725 (“safety requirements and testing methods”) >SS-EN 1022 (“domestic furniture assessment of stability for seat- ing furniture”) All our beds have been approved according to current requirements. They also come with an environmental product declaration. All Hästens beds fulfil the necessary criteria to receive the Möbelfakta® mark. All testing is conducted in accordance with the well established SIS-standard.

Latex Free
When you choose a Hästens bed, you can be sure that it is free from all forms of foam rubber, polyurethane and latex – materials that many other bed manufacturers use in their mattresses. In our opinion, cotton, flax, real horsehair and pure new wool are a great deal more comfortable to have near the body.



Warranty

We hope that both you and your bed enjoy a long, good life. That’s why we give a long warranty when you buy a Hästens bed. 25 years to be precise. We can make this promise thanks to everything we’ve learnt during our 150 years as a manufacturer.

A 25 year warranty against spring and frame breakage is nothing new for us. Our beds have come with a 25 year warranty for many years. This is our obligation as Sweden’s oldest bed manufacturer. We make sure our beds will last. The Hästens bed you purchase in 2007 has a warranty that covers your bed until the year 2032. And if your bed lasts as long as the beds of the satisfied customers who write to us, you could easily still be using it beyond the year 2040. All real masterpieces are signed. And so it is with every Hästens bed that leaves our factory in Köping. Each and every bed has its own unique manufacturing number.

The warranty slip is signed by the master craftsman who builds the bed. Hästens only manufactures beds under the Hästens trademark, and none other. We do not compromise with simpler variations. Make sure you buy a genuine Hästens bed if you want to be sure of a comfortable and long-lasting bed. Invest in a real bed that you will be happy with and choose for yourself how long you wish to keep it. If you plan to keep your bed for a long time, it is really important that you choose the right bed. There is no way to find the bed that’s best for you other than trying it yourself. Be sure to try out all models and firmness levels. After that, you are ready to choose the right bed from our broad range. Our different models have various properties specifically developed to satisfy different requirements. Only you can decide which model suits you best. When you have chosen the model, you need to be careful in choosing the right level of firmness. Be sure you test each level until you are sure.
